Installation Of A Bathtub On A Brick

When buying a bathtub, you need to immediately think about its installation, and what it will stand on, factory legs or bricks.

Some will prefer the first option, and when installing the bathtub, it will turn out that the bathtub on them will be able to take an incorrect horizontal position and will be unstable, so the second type of supports is the most practical, so we will consider it.

Installation of a cast-iron bath on brick supports

Before installation, you need to free up space near the bathroom and carefully measure for one of asheville water heaters. Si is not easy, it is worth determining its location exactly, and to protect the doors, which may be damaged when the bath is installed, it is necessary to wrap them with a soft cloth, securing it with staples from a construction gun.

Before carrying out the installation procedure, you should prepare two dozen red bricks, a container for mixing cement mortar, a trowel and trowels. The planned installation is not difficult, but it is difficult to redo it due to the large mass of the bath, so you should tune in to the correct installation and follow the tips below exactly.

Algorithm for installing a bathtub:
  1. Bring a cast iron product into the bathroom. Determine that the legs are added to it.
  2. Collect the siphon. Check the correctness and reliability of its installation.
  3. Blow the bottom with mounting foam. This is necessary if you want to make the bath noise-absorbing. Only when applying the foam, it is necessary to ensure that its layer does not protrude beyond the sides of the cast-iron product, otherwise it will be loose against the wall.
  4. Measure the dimensions of the bath. To accurately perform brick supports, you should measure the distance from the bottom of the product to the end of the legs. And you also need to know the size between the legs, this parameter with an allowance of 10 mm will correspond to the size of the brickwork.
  5. Install the bathtub against the wall. This is a preliminary installation, in which you need to put it close to the wall, and adjust the slope of the front and back sides so that the front part is higher than the one located next to the wall, this will eliminate the leakage of water from the bathroom. Then you need to take it out.
  6. Knead the sand-cement solution. The optimal ratio for its preparation is a mixture of 4 parts of quartz sand and 1 part of cement grade 400. At the end, water is added to them, the amount of which is determined by the state of the mixture. It is better to start with small portions, and then add more as needed. If the solution turned out to be liquid, then cement should be added to it. For a stronger composition, half of the solution can be replaced with tile glue, due to this it will become more plastic.
  7. Lay the supports. Do not forget about the slope towards the back wall. From each edge of the masonry, it is necessary to lay half a brick. After that, the brick structure is left to stand for 24-48 hours to allow the cement mixture to harden.
  8. Carry out the final installation. A layer of mortar should be laid on the upper part of the bricks, it should be no more than 2 cm on the central support, a small depression should be made in it, repeating the shape of the bottom. On the sides of the bathroom, which are adjacent to the wall, it is necessary to apply glue for tiles, smearing these same places on the wall itself. Install the bathtub on brick supports and press it tightly against the wall.
  9. Control the installation. It is necessary to control the slope of the bathtub, and if it is necessary to adjust it with the help of legs or by placing additional pieces of brick between the supports and the bottom, and if there are gaps in these places, then they must be closed with mortar. If the mounting foam is applied on one side, it must be blown from the front side as well, taking into account the size to the side, and not exceeding it.

After installing the bathtub, it is necessary to check the operation of the siphon: pour a small amount of water into the bathtub and open the drain, if nothing leaks, then everything is fine.

If the bathtub will be installed on a brick without legs, then its location should not be overestimated. The optimal height is 70 cm, but in most cases it is installed at 60 cm, it is not advisable to install it higher than that, as it will be inconvenient to climb into it.

Installation on a brick frame of an acrylic bath

The light weight of such a product can create a false impression, because compared to its cast-iron counterpart, it is fluff and it seems that strengthening the supports in the form of brickwork is unnecessary. But this is a false opinion.

First, a bathtub filled with water, no matter what material it is made of, weighs decently, and its legs, unable to withstand such a mass, move apart.

Secondly, they rust over time and can easily crumble, because of this there are problems with the skewing of the bathtub, and it affects the drain water – it stagnates in the drain hole. There are known cases when acrylic bathtubs burst under the weight of a large volume of water. Based on this, it becomes clear that brick supports must be installed under such products in order to extend their service life.

Acrylic bathtubs can be of different shapes: oval, rectangular with rounded edges, triangular and beveled, but the principle of installing brick supports remains the same for all of them. The main thing is to adjust them under the bottom of the selected acrylic product. The optimal solution for strengthening the strength of an acrylic product will be the installation of a frame, which can be done together with the brickwork of the supports.

The algorithm for carrying out installation work is as follows:

  1. Prepare the room and materials.
  2. Cover the walls with the selected material, pick up a brick and cover it with rolled guerlain. This material contains a fabric layer that serves as a separator between the cement mortar and the wall. This kind of compensator can change its shape and geometry when the water temperature changes.
  3. Attach installation hooks to the wall. They are available in hardware stores, and if you wish and have the necessary material (steel plates), you can make such details yourself. They are attached to the side of the bathtub adjacent to the wall.
  4. Install brick supports. It is performed in the same way as for the previous type of baths. You can perform not two, but three supports. Their height and the order of masonry is carried out according to the previously described option.
  5. Execution of the frame. Some craftsmen make a frame from corners, but it is not as strong as the brick version, when creating a kind of niche made of a quarter brick. Only a centimeter gap should be provided between the wall and the bath. A flat design around the entire perimeter of the bath will create reliable protection of the walls of the product, only the performance of the service window must be taken into account. If it is not done, then if it is necessary to check the siphon and sewer pipes hidden under the bath, you will have to disassemble the entire brickwork. If there are not enough bricks, then you can limit yourself to supports only in the corners of the bath.
  6. Close the gaps between the bath and the wall. Mounting foam, silicone tape or sealant will help.

An acrylic bath can be installed first on the legs, fixing them in the created bed of cement, and then strengthen them with brick supports, which are placed between the legs and in the middle of the bottom.

Due to the instability of the bathtub, it is not possible to make a border between it and the wall – it is constantly collapsing. To eliminate these problems, you can use ordinary red bricks and construction glue. The progress of work is as follows:

  1. Raise the bath. For ease of installation, you can use a jack and raise it to the desired height. The standard height to the bottom of the bathtub is 60 cm, that is, you need to be guided by this size. But on different models of bathrooms, their depth varies by several centimeters, so everything should be carefully measured before major installation.
  2. Lay brick racks. There will be two of them. From both edges of the bath, you need to retreat the same distance and mark the place of installation of bricks on the floor. The first of them should be installed with the smaller side close to the wall, having previously smeared its lower part with tile glue. Then put the next brick butt against it. That is, the racks are made of half bricks. There were three bricks in height, lying on top of each other.
  3. Installing a bathtub. Tile glue is applied to the surface of the uppermost brick. Then the jack is lowered, and the bath is fixed on the bricks. The bathroom legs also need to be put on glue to create more reliable supports.
  4. Lay the empty space between the wall and the bath. For large gaps, you can cut a narrow strip of foam and install it using a regular sealant. Where the distance to the wall is small, simply cover it with a sealant.

A steel bathtub is very loud, with high pressure, the sound of water hitting it can reverberate throughout the house. To prevent this, during installation, it is necessary to cover its bottom with any noise-absorbing material or apply polyurethane foam to it.

The considered options for installing the bathtub on brick supports guarantee a long service life of the product, they increase its strength, and when using mounting foam, they increase noise absorption. Their creation does not require special skills, so it is easy to install brick baths yourself.
