Connecting The Washing Machine To The Sewage System

Installing a washing machine is a very painstaking, high-tech process that requires the observance of clear rules. Compliance with the instructions will avoid unwanted vibration, protect electrical circuits from voltage drop and ensure high-quality water circulation in the system. Correct connection of the washing machine will extend its service life and provide better washing.

The process of installing a washing machine consists of four stages:

  • preparatory,
  • water connection,
  • water drainage connection,
  • installation of the case.

It is important to carry out each of them consistently, as non-compliance with the technology will lead to a violation of structural elements, as a result of which the sewage hose will be disconnected randomly or the water supply will be poor.

Preparatory process

Before starting any work, it is necessary to prepare the tool. To independently connect the washing machine, you will need:

  • socket wrench (2 pcs.),
  • construction foam,
  • a set of rubber gaskets (if not included),
  • a set of metal transitional fittings (if there is no place for water connection),
  • a set of plastic transition fittings (if there is no place for drainage in the sewer),
  • cutter,
  • scissors for metal-plastic pipes (if installed),
  • grinder (if the pipes are metal),
  • solid soap

Next, it is necessary to study the technical characteristics of the washing machine. As a rule, the power of such devices starts from 1 kW, such a load is large for any power network. If, for example, an electric fireplace, a kettle or any other device that increases the total load on the network to 3 kW or more is turned on at the same time, the machines will be turned off. But, if they are not provided or designed for 16 A, then a short circuit will occur, as a result, the equipment currently connected to the network will most likely burn out.

To avoid this, some best kitchen remodelers in Sacramento CA install internal voltage stabilizers that equalize network fluctuations and protect against short circuits. If your machine does not have such a device, it is necessary to properly connect the motor of the washing machine. For this, it is enough to buy an external stabilizer. It is inserted into the outlet, and the cable from the washing machine is connected directly to it. Naturally, this device will not allow you to use all electrical equipment at the same time, but it will protect it from damage.

Connection of running water

Connecting the washing machine to the water supply begins with an inspection of the water pipe. After plumbing repairs, as a rule, a special tap is left for connecting a washing machine. But, this does not always happen, firstly, the water pipes could not be changed, secondly, the planned location could change. It is not difficult to make a new lead.

If the pipes are plastic, the procedure is as follows:

  • turn off the water supply to the house or apartment, drain it from the pipes,
  • measure the length of the water hose of the washing machine,
  • measure the distance to the water pipe,
  • cut the pipe
  • assemble the corner with the help of fittings,
  • extend it with a piece of plastic pipe of at least 10 cm,
  • install a faucet on top of the pipe,
  • turn on the water and check for leaks,
  • turn off the water

If the pipes are metal, the algorithm of actions is the same. Only in the places where the pipe is cut, it will be necessary to make an external thread using a pipe threader. Before winding the fitting, foam is wound in 3-4 layers on the thread.

A technical question logically arises – how to screw a part of the pipe to the corner? To do this, you need to cut another small piece (at least 10 cm) and fasten it. Two equal pipes are fastened with the help of special fittings, for metal it is necessary to cut a thread, for plastic both soldering and metal analogues are suitable.

As soon as the outlet is ready, connect the washing machine hose to it:

  • wind the fuma on the thread,
  • tightly twist the drain hose (hold the underwater faucet with one key, and twist it with the other),
  • do not open the tap.

A simpler, but less reliable option is to use a conventional clutch.

The water connection to the washing machine is complete. For proper washing, it is necessary to connect only cold water. A washing machine connected to hot water, firstly, will not work correctly and the heating element will fail (the automation is designed for a certain program, if any of the parameters of the program do not correspond, at best the washing machine will turn off), secondly, the expected will not happen saving electricity, as it will have to be washed several times.

Methods of connecting the washing machine to the sewer

There are only two options:

  • direct connection
  • external

Direct connection should be understood as fixing the drainage hose in the sewer pipe. This is quite painstaking work and its implementation is advisable in the case when the washing machine is designed for 6 or more liters, and washing is carried out at least twice a day.

The technology is similar to the installation of a tap, with the exception that instead of a tap, a system of rubber gaskets is used.

A special cap is put on the inlet pipe, which is made of stretchable rubber and has a narrowed opening.

The drain hose from the washing machine (at least 8-10 cm) is inserted into it,

The rubber reliably fixes the hose in the sewer pipe, as a result, even at high pressure, the possibility of leakage is excluded.

The difficulties are that it is quite difficult to find such caps, especially for small diameter pipes.

The external connection of the automatic washing machine up to 6 kg is carried out without any additional fasteners and fuses. It is important to remember that the drain hose should enter the sewer pipe as close as possible to a right angle.

Drain through the sewer pipe

If the washing machine does not have a non-return valve, which should allow water to flow only in one direction, then it is necessary to read and follow the operating instructions when installing the machine. At the same time, the height of the nozzle of the drain hose should not be higher than 50 cm. If the diameter of the sewer pipe allows, then you can install a drain from the washing machine directly on it using a seal.

Attention ! The smell of gas in the bathroom can occur if the drain is too fast. The drain water creates a vacuum in the line, which then sucks the water out of the sewer pipes. This circumstance allows gases from the septic tank to enter the house. The reason may be an incorrect sewer ventilation scheme. Another cause of unpleasant odors can be any cracks or stretches in the drain hose, it is necessary to replace it as soon as possible.

Installation of the filter for washing

No matter how stylish the clothes look, the loss of even a small detail detracts from the beauty of any outfit. However, installing a trap filter can help prevent this by ensuring that every item of clothing that is loaded into the washing machine doesn’t get lost and the drain doesn’t get clogged.

Filters serve to collect lint, small objects and threads with each load of clothes that are washed in the machine. They can be of different shapes, sizes, styles, colors and designs depending on the washing machine model:

  • can be inside the washing machine;
  • can be a container attached to the drain hose of the washing machine;
  • can be square or oval in shape, hanging from the inside of the washing machine.

Advantages of a washing machine with a filter in the protection of the sewage system and septic tank. Buildings that use septic systems are more prone to clogging. If the excess lint is discharged from the sewer and, therefore, does not settle into the septic system, then it will be necessary to clean the septic tank less.

Filters protect the sewage system. Homeowners spend a lot of money to call a plumber to unblock their drains. Lint can get stuck in the pipes and cause a massive buildup of debris, thereby blocking the drain and causing more and more stress. The use of filter lint will contribute to the fact that the pipes will remain cleaner for longer.

When draining the water from the washing machine, lint may appear in the sink. Not only is this very unhygienic, this circumstance leads to frequent cleaning of the sinks, from which you have to remove huge pieces of garbage. Buying a washing machine filter trap for a small amount of money can reduce and even eliminate lint build-up in the sink. A filter trap for a washing machine is valuable. In case it is not there at the moment, you need to buy and install it to increase the life of the machine. There are many articles on the Internet about how to properly and safely connect the filter. It also reduces the danger of fire of the device, helps to wash clothes much faster.

Installation of the case

The last, but perhaps the most important point, is the installation of the washing machine itself. There are inviolable rules for this work:

  • perfectly flat surface,
  • the presence of a minimum free space around the case (at least 0.5 cm).

The legs of the washing machine must be aligned so that it does not wobble at all. Cementing them into the floor is a bad idea. Constant vibration will destroy not only the filling near the washing machine, but also several meters around the perimeter, undermining the tiles or destroying the base of the floor. In addition, in panel houses, such a procedure will lead to the fact that the chandeliers of the neighbors below you will shake during washing.

The legs are aligned not only at the bottom, but also with special pulls, which are located on the back of the washing machine. As a rule, they are adjusted in the store, but it doesn’t hurt to see for yourself. Tightening should be tight. This means that they are fixed. In different types of washing machines, the tightening is either adjusted using a wrench or a special lever.

Connecting a washing machine in the bathroom or in the kitchen is no different. Naturally, washing machines are hidden in the furniture in the kitchen. In order to avoid vibration, special strong rubber gaskets are attached to the furniture from the bottom, middle and top of the side walls of the washing machine. They absorb vibration and nullify it.
